What is known as Dhammic love, is the absolute freedom in life simply because it is the antithesis of fear. These two aspects of the mind cannot exist at the same time in the same place and of the two, love is always better.
Fear is always about losing something. Something material or more subtly some kind of personal credibility - hence the expression, 'what will people think?'
Who are these people whose opinion we are so afraid of, and why do we even care what views others may have formed of us?
When you have no fear, who has any power over you, can manipulate or control you? In this place you can be true to your highest integrity and accept not only the responsibility of your actions, but also the impersonal consequences of them.
Fear, then is always our weakness and no matter how much we can explain it to ourselves and others, does not bring a good result in our life.
However, it is important to say that although fear is not our friend, we should at the same time take care with our decisions and actions. Being reckless also may not bring a good result and so balance is important.
To consider each possibility from a mature and open standpoint rather than being frozen through fear or impulsive through recklessness.
An open and loving attitude to life then, is much healthier in every way and will bring good results emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Love transcends liking and disliking and serves all beings equally. It looks for nothing in return and so does not belong to the world of business and emotional politics.
It is the greatest and most beautiful power in life because it is independent of external influences.
In the end, the definition of love is the acceptance of the universe as it manifests in this moment without applying personal fear-based conditions. Then we can respond wisely rather than simply reacting.
The whole of Dhamma, however intellectually and scholarly we may speak about it is extremely simple, 'live with love and be aware.'
This path is very difficult and so why so few attempt to follow it. But for those who do and commit to this journey the consequence is great. More peace, joy and happiness in your life at the expense of fear, anxiety and stress. This life then is better for you and all beings.
May all beings be happy.
