The most important thing on our Dhamma path is that we guard our commitment and our integrity, no matter what!
It doesn’t matter what others think, say or do, it only matters what we think, say or do. This is to make ourselves an island - free from the influence of the world and walking alone in the direction indicated by our heart.
Even if the teacher fails our expectations, the Dhamma is still pure and so we stay true to our own heart.
People want fast results and an easy way, but this is not Dhamma.
However, the moment our feet are secure and all doubt in the beauty of Dhamma falls away, we will have made ourselves an island that no storm can wash away.
This is a very important teaching, that we must always follow our own heart, and not be swayed by the crowd and the unawakened voices in our own head.
By sustained effort and self-discipline
wise people are able to build themselves an island
that no flood can sweep away.
